Paintings and Drawings!!  I paint daily going back and forth between Watercolor and Oils. I have just recently taken up pastel as well after a weekend workshop taught my Margaret Dyer. I prefer watercolor for quick studies. I use oils for in-depth studies and figurative work.

I have been studying painting under Marc Chatov for the past few years.  I take workshops from other teachers as my work schedule allows. I also plan and coordinate workshops for the Atlanta Portrait Society. We bring in world famous artists.

I have three galleries below. Just click on the galleries to see more examples of my work. If you are interested in any of the pieces here or in seeing more of my work, just email me at jean@walkawaystudio.com.

Most of the human figurative work in this gallery has been painted from life. The pet portraits are painted from photographs. I do commission pet portraits. If you are interested in commissioning a pet portrait, just email me at jean@walkawaystudio.com for pricing and terms.

I currently do a lot of figurative work in the studio because I believe it is the best way to train the eye to be sensitive to the figure. This year I will be focusing on plein air painting as well to strenghten my ability to capture light in the landscape.

Still-life and Landscapes

I set up still-lifes in my studio on a regular basis. It's a great way to work on a specific challenge and a good way to develop a steady painting work ethic. I approach each still-life with a specific goal. The goal can be as simple as the way light travels across the surface of the canvas or as complex as the pyschology behind the objects chosen.

My interest in subject matter is changing toward that which I value most in my life... time outdoors. I've started to work on my plein air skills and plan to hone these over the next year. I am personally drawn to compositions with the figure in a landscape and plan to focus the body of my work in that direction.

Drawings

I have been drawing on a regular basis since I left the corporate world several years ago. I loose a sense of time and place when I draw. I love to draw people and continue to be both in awe and perplexed by each of our differences.
